   Pump Station/Bypass Pumping Highlights

As an integral part of the wastewater treatment process, pump stations provide unique challenges to contractors due to the diversity of locations and the impact of construction on communities.  The General Wastewater Pump Station Improvements Project illustrates this well, with improvements to fourteen pump stations throughout metro Atlanta including sites near busy intersections, schools, and homes, even within a traffic island, and next to a neighborhood clubhouse.  This high profile project was part of a Consent Order by the Environmental Protection Agency and involved multiple milestone deadlines.  WWPS partnered with the City of Atlanta and its Engineer to successfully complete the project.

A formalized partnering process prompted open communication and shared problem solving.

The partnering team adopted a Mission Statement which was signed by all team members. Creative solutions, such as submittal workshops to expedite the completion of complex submittals, aided in the successful completion of the project.

"I would like to take this opportunity to express the City of Atlanta's and my personal thanks to you and your team for 'above and beyond' the call of duty while partnering on the General Pump Station Improvement and Telemetry project...The work was excellent. It was completed ahead of schedule and within budget..."

WWPS bypass pumping expertise is reflected in its work at Philip Lee Pump Station in Atlanta, GA. WWPS designed and installed a bypass pumping system for flows of 30-40 MGD. The bypass pumping operation ran 24-hours a day while WWPS replaced 36" valves and rebuilt centrifugal pumps.

"When the level of challenge is greatest, I know I can turn to WWPS..."
Rod Hardeman, City of Atlanta, Technical Projects Manager

WWPS provided emergency bypass pumping operations to the Macon Water Authority in Macon, Georgia. When the pumps at the City's main pump station were in critical need of repair, WWPS mobilized immediately designing and implementing a system that met the station's flow properties and severe site constraints. Bypass operations were completed with no delays, spills, down time or safety violations allowing the City to perform emergency repairs, replacing valves and rebuilding pumps.

"...WWPS did not hesitate to help us out and immediately met with myself and others to plan and coordinate the work, confirming what we had heard about your company - that WWPS is committed to helping the Owner..."

Frank Sanders, MWA Field Operations Director
